Best of TEQ Blog Simulation Posts

Compiled by: Andrea Browning

As we come to the end of Healthcare Simulation Week, the NLN Center for Innovation in Simulation and Technology highlights the top three TEQ Blog posts on innovations in simulation.

Most Read: Moving from Disease-Based to Concept-Based Simulations

Authors Alaina Herrington and Tonya Schneidereith used Benner’s Novice to Expert stages to level and scaffold the concepts that educators identified as important for simulation. They found that a simulation scenario focused on a single concept can be used for multiple programs of study. This approach can be used to design simulations for learners in multiple programs while maximizing human, space, and financial resources. Read more about their experience with Moving from Disease-Based to Concept-Based Simulations.

Second most read: Recruiting and Hiring SPs

Authors Cedar Wang and Beth Hallmark discuss the careful consideration of qualifications, hiring options, and onboarding processes needed for recruiting and hiring simulated or standardized patients (SPs). Read their creative ideas in Recruiting and Hiring SPs.

Third most read: Academia to Bedside: Does Simulation Accelerate Progression from Novice to Expert? Part 2

Authors Jean Zavertnik, Judy Murphy, and Justine Dawson interviewed two new graduate nurses and two senior-level nursing students to get their perspectives on the role simulation played in their transition from student to professional nurse. The interview subjects were asked to describe their transition from classroom to clinical, what facilitated the transition, and what barriers they encountered transitioning to the bedside. Read their findings in Academia to Bedside: Does Simulation Accelerate Progression from Novice to Expert? Part 2.
